Awards
The most important award for us will always be the recognition and satisfaction we receive from our audience and customers. Nevertheless, we sometimes submit our typefaces and projects to competitions – sometimes with success.
Neue DIN has been awarded yet another award (number 6 now!) and we are absolutely over the moon that this relative newbie to the Fontwerk family continues to gain recognition. After winning the iF Design Award 2024, the German Design Award 2024, the Communication Arts 2024 Award of Excellence as well as Bronze in the ADC Award 2023 and Finalist in the ADC*E Awards 2023, designers Hendrik Weber, Andreas Frohloff and Olli Meier have just won Silver at Hiiibrand Design Awards 2023.
The Hiiibrand Design Awards are internationally recognized awards that focus on outstanding branding and design. Out of 130 submissions in the Professional Typography category, we are so proud that Neue DIN has been awarded Silver (meaning it’s one of the top 3%).
The award is particularly popular in Asia, which makes us especially happy, as we have an ever-growing customer base from this part of the world. Speaking of which, in collaboration with our local partners, we can offer CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) solutions for Neue DIN and all our other fonts too.
We are delighted to share the news that Neue DIN has just won the prestigious iF DESIGN AWARD 2024 in the category Communication → Typography/Signage.
Even the Type Directors Club can’t resist the charm of an adorable hamster, proving cuteness transcends even the strictest standards of typography.
When we published our first Color Font Hamster last year, we devised the “Hoarding all the nuts” campaign together with the creative geniuses at SNASK. Hamster has now melted hearts at the TDC: The prestigious “Certificate of Excellence” in the 70th Type Directors Club New York competition. We are ecstatic and are doing a Hamster Dance to celebrate the day.
Designer Joe Stitzlein has achieved a unique feat: Exactly a quarter of a century after his first TDC award for the ITC Tactile typeface, he can put the prize on his shelf for the second time. So we are already planning a congratulatory card for 2049, when he is expected to win his third TDC Award.
After winning an ADC Bronze Award earlier this year, we are over the moon to announce that Neue DIN has also been shortlisted in the ADCE Awards 2023.
The ADCE Awards (Art Directors Club of Europe) brings together the best of European award-winning work under one competition and we are so proud that one of our NEUest additions to the Fontwerk family has received further recognition in these prestigious awards.
When we launched Neue DIN earlier this year, we looked at how we could reimagine the German type icon and bring together a type-tastic team that included Hendrik Weber, Andreas Frohloff and Olli Meier. The joy and magic of designing, producing and mastering fonts is something that we feel very grateful to be able to call work.
Yet it truly takes a village to create a typeface and very often the blood, sweat and tears that goes into bringing a new typeface to market remains hidden from view. So, when we heard the news that Neue DIN had been awarded a German Design Award in the category Excellent Communications Design (Typography), we literally jumped off our seats and did a happy dance. Even more when we read the jury’s statement:
“The typographic design of ‘Neue DIN’ fully meets the requirements of digital transformation and thus raises the timelessly clear elegance of the classic standard typeface, which served as the starting point for the project, to a contemporary level.”
The German Design Award is one of the most prestigious creative awards in the world and we are so incredibly proud that our work has been recognized and awarded this accolade by the German Design Council. This motivates us even more to further improve and extend the typeface in the future.
Neue DIN has been selected by the 2024 Typography Annual jury to win a Communication Arts Award for best Typeface Design.
Neue DIN won an ADC Bronze Award (ADC Nagel) in the Type/Typography category at the Art Directors Club Awards.
The ADC Annual Awards are one of Germany’s most coveted creative accolades and in this year’s edition there were 2269 entries and 450 judges! 274 awards were given and we are over the moon that one of the newest additions to the Fontwerk Family has been recognized.
Our Neue DIN microsite has received an Honorable Mention (January 31, 2023).
This special honor is given to websites that achieve a high score in their user and jury vote.
Our Neue DIN microsite got awarded as Site of the Day by Mindsparkle Mag (January 24th, 2023).

Since its release earlier this year, Jan Fromm’s Nice has already attracted lots of attention–from mentions in The Brand Identity to TYPE01. So, we were over the moon to hear that it has won a Communication Arts Award for best Typeface Design. Out of over 1,100 entries to this year’s competition just 137 were selected by the jury and awarded across fifteen different categories.
Now in its 13th year, the annual Typography Competition by Communication Arts celebrates the best use of typography, new typeface designs, calligraphy and hand lettering. All winners will be featured in the January/February 2023 issue of Communication Arts, both in print and online.
Hot on the heels of making the D&AD shortlist, Ika by Jörg Hemker has also been commended in the ADC Annual Awards under the Typography category and was awarded a ‘Merit’.
Part of The One Club for Creativity, the ADC Annual Awards is the world’s oldest continuously running industry awards show and this year marks their 100th year. The ADC awards celebrate the great and the good across all creative industries from illustration to fashion design, from product design to typography.
Jörg Hemker’s Ika was shortlisted in the Modern Cyrillic 2021 Awards. Organized by Paratype, it is an international type design competition that recognizes the best Cyrillic typefaces in the business.
We are over the moon that we have been awarded an American Web Design Award in their 21st awards showcase.
The American Web Design Awards are run annually by Graphic Design USA (better known as GDUSA) and shine a spotlight on outstanding examples of web design that enhances online experience. From over 2,300 entries this year, we are so pleased that our website has been named a winner! GDUSA has been running since 1963 and is a magazine for creative professionals. You can see all of the winners in their October edition, which is free to access.
Kudos to our designer Jana Kühl and developer Rob Meek!
