Before we head off for a little summer break, here’s what’s been happening in the world of Fontwerk this past month. Hot on the heels of the release of Case 2.0, we’re delighted to wish Neue DIN a happy ‘half year’ birthday and share some news about a recent award win, there’s a thought-provoking in use case for Nice and a little roundup of a few things that have caught our eye recently.

Neue DIN just won an ADC Bronze Nagel in the Type/Typography category at the Art Directors Club awards |
Time flies when you’re making fonts and we can’t quite believe that Neue DIN is already six months old! We are happy to celebrate this milestone and it’s been amazing to see the positive responses.
In more good news, Neue DIN recently won an ADC Bronze Award (ADC Nagel) in the Type/Typography category at the Art Directors Club awards. The ADC Annual Awards are one of Germany’s most coveted creative accolades and in this year’s edition there were 2269 entries and 450 judges! 274 awards were given and we are over the moon that one of the newest additions to the Fontwerk Family has been recognized.
In other news, we’re currently working on a super duper extension of the font family, so watch this space.
If you haven’t seen Neue DIN in all her glory, be sure to check out our specially created microsite and don’t forget, you can always TRY before you BUY our fonts.

Following the first edition, issue № 2 of the soлomiya magazine features our Nice typeface again. |
The solomiya magazine was founded in April 2022 by two photographers as a response to Russia’s war against Ukraine. With the first edition, the founders wanted to show what there is to defend in Ukraine: Young people with hope and courage, who grew up in an independent country and who are not ready to give up their freedom. The magazine is an important and timely testimony to resistance to war through art.
The magazine features our very own Nice type system by Jan Fromm. Both Nice Headline and Nice Text play a starring role and Jan also designed the logotype with a custom-л using Nice Poster.
We’re delighted to see that edition № 2 not only relies on the superfamily again, but that issue № 1 has won a Gold ADC-Nagel in the Art Directors Club’s highly coveted awards. The jury commented on how they were ‘deeply moved by the project’ and how much they admired the ‘restrained visual language’.

Hacking Gutenberg is an experimental letterpress workshop based in Berlin and run by our friend and designer of Case, Erik Spiekermann. Dedicated to all things letters, printing and paper, it is a beautiful space to get your hands inky and a real playground where you can get up close and personal to letterpresses. In order to keep the workshop alive, you can support their work and become a FREUND now. In doing so, you’ll get a certificate, 10% off on everything in the p98a shop, a poster once a year and one workshop per year at half price.

We are big believers in the incredible power of fonts (well, we really should be, shouldn’t we!) but we also believe in finding the right font fit for your project. In this informative article from The Washington Post, you can see the impact that different fonts have on the way you read and write.
We also recommend that you use the TRY function on our own website to give our fonts a whirl and see what they look like in your projects.
