We are super excited to share a little sneak peek of Nice Sans, which will complement Jan Fromm’s serif superfamily Nice, very erm, nicely indeed (see what we did there ;) Jan is hard at work tinkering away on the design and we are so excited by how it’s coming along.
This ‘Grotesk’ iteration of Nice will, like the Serif, be available in four optical sizes: Poster, Headline, Text and Micro and we plan to launch it in early 2025. In the meantime, for those eager beavers who want to take it for a test drive, you can get your hands on some very early (!) Beta fonts by getting in touch with us.
The award-winning original Nice, which won the Communication Arts Award of Excellence in 2023, is definitely ready and still popular. If you can’t wait for the arrival of the sans counterpart, have some fun with the older family member for the time being.

Released four weeks ago: Pangea Condensed (+SemiCondensed +XCondensed) |
Last month, we shared that Pangea by Christoph Koeberlin just got even bigger and better, with the introduction of three brand new widths: SemiCondensed, Condensed and XCondensed.
With the addition of Pangea Condensed, the Pangea Collection now offers you an even richer type treasure trove with 80 fonts and 542 languages, making it an exceptionally powerful tool. It is also arguably one of the most comprehensive contemporary geometric sans serifs out there right now.

McQueen Grotesk in use for the fictitious Schlossatelier Monaise (along with the custom typeface Monaise) |
For Type Designer and Designer Luca Marie Julien, the opportunity to create her own project and concept arose during her Bachelor’s semester at Trier University of Applied Sciences. She came up with the idea of an imaginary artists residency and as part of the project she had to design the brief and a series of marketing materials.
She chose Monaise Castle, a small chateau on the Moselle, as the hub of her fictional project and came up with “Schlossatelier Monaise” – a scholarship that would be awarded to young artists and creatives. As part of the project, she created her own display typeface with three styles. To complement this, she used McQueen Grotesk by Loris Olivier, Noheul Lee, Katja Schimmel and Olli Meier as the body font.
As she says, “I chose McQueen Grotesk from Fontwerk as the body text font because it looks friendly and inviting, is easy to read and offers an extensive character set.”
Our generous and very student-friendly licensing policy may have also played a role in her choice, as all students can download each family for a flat rate of €50 (plus VAT).

In our last newsletter, we announced Ivo’s appearance at the Berlin Letters Festival. Berlin Letters is a type gathering with a difference. Covering all aspects of all things type-related – from type design to sign painting, from calligraphy to all the behind the scenes of the type business and of course, lettering – it was the second edition of this event and wow… Our heads are still fizzing and buzzing! Over the course of three days, 23 speakers from across the industry let off creative fireworks in the most unique of locations (a former crematorium).
We are still processing the experience and soaking up all the conversations and inspiration and would like to take this opportunity to thank the organizers Ulrike Rausch, Chris Campe, Nils Töpfer, Claudia Guminski and all the other great people who came together to make this event a reality.
Berlin Letters is a gift for the Berlin and European design scene. We really hope that the festival lasts for many years and if you missed it this year, make sure you don’t miss it in the future! (© Photo: Norman Posselt)
