Even though spring has given way to another cold front here in Berlin, our hearts are still warm: our Color Font Hamster has received a great deal of recognition.
Even though spring has given way to another cold front here in Berlin, our hearts are still warm: our Color Font Hamster has just received a great deal of recognition! We also discovered a wonderful use case for Pangea Afrikan and learned something new about our latest font release Push.

The “Hoarding all the nuts” campaign, created by the creative geniuses at SNASK |
Even the Type Directors Club can’t resist the charm of an adorable hamster, proving cuteness transcends even the strictest standards of typography.
When we published our first Color Font Hamster last year, we devised the “Hoarding all the nuts” campaign together with the creative geniuses at SNASK. Hamster has now melted hearts at the TDC: The prestigious “Certificate of Excellence” in the 70th Type Directors Club New York competition. We are ecstatic and are doing a Hamster Dance to celebrate the day.
Designer Joe Stitzlein has achieved a unique feat: Exactly a quarter of a century after his first TDC award for the ITC Tactile typeface, he can put the prize on his shelf for the second time. So we are already planning a congratulatory card for 2049, when he is expected to win his third TDC Award.
So if, like us, you feel like giving Hamster a cuddle, we recommend trying out the colorful Trial Fonts.

New logo, new visual language and a new house font: the African version of Pangea Text for the African Film & Art Festival |
The fourth annual African Film & Art Festival took place in 2023 in Providence (Rhode Island, USA). Since its inception, the event has become firmly anchored in the cultural calendar of the East Coast and is dedicated to both contemporary African Cinema and Traditional Music.
Last year, the organizer gave its brand a visual identity for the first time with a new logo, new visual language and a new typeface: the African version of the inclusive font family Pangea Text.
As Osmond Tshuma, Founder and Designer at South African design studio Mam’Gobozi Design Factory, describes the reason for choosing Pangea Text as follows: “Choosing a font was vital because we required one that could also handle Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, or Lingala movie or song titles. Additionally, the icon we had created for the event was geometric, and Pangea Afrikan complimented it quite well. A perfect match.”
Pangea Afrikan is an important milestone in the efforts of its designer Christoph Koeberlin to create a sustainable and unifying typeface that challenges Western conventions. More often than not the character sets of most successful fonts only represent European and American alphabets, yet Pangea Afrikan is included for free as part of the complete Standard license.

In our last newsletter, we launched our latest typeface, Push by Christine Gertsch and we have been so delighted by the reaction and response to that.
Over on the Identifont blog, David Johnson-Davies has interviewed Christine about the inspiration behind her design, the challenges when creating it and the unique characteristics of Push that set it apart from other typefaces.
German readers should also have a look at the comprehensive article about both the design of Push and the marketing campaign we did together with Rocket & Wink at PAGE Online.

We believe that fantastic fonts that are fit for purpose and make your projects shine should be as accessible as possible. So, we have made it super simple for students to enrich and expand their own collections with Fontwerk fonts. All eligible students can purchase a font family for the price of a single weight (e.g. buy the whole Neue DIN or Pangea Text family for just €50 (net)).
Even after graduation, the license remains valid.
