Font Licensing made even simpler
e looked at feedback from our customers, studied trends both outside and in the industry, implemented some of our own ideas and added an extra sprinkle of valuable legal and UX design input. The result is an even more simplified license model.
To take the headache out of multiple decisions when buying, our previous Extended License has been discontinued. This also allows us to create more individual, and therefore, even fairer licenses.
The demand for eBook licenses proved to be so low that it no longer seemed justified to offer them. In the future, font embedding in digital publications will be part of the Desktop license and so separate eBook licenses are therefore no longer needed.
We are also introducing a new type of use: Social Media. Alongside Desktop (Print) and Web, image or text contributions on social media channels are the most common use case for our fonts. This license component is a simple way for us to do justice to this fact: only the largest channel is used as the basis for calculation.
Our new Base License includes the three most relevant types of use: Desktop (1 user), Web (10,000 pageviews per month) and Social Media (10,000 followers). Whether you’re a freelancer or a global brand, these use cases are present in almost every case. Just like our previous Standard License, the new Base License is extraordinarily comprehensive and thus legally compliant.
Our new Base License can not only be individually adapted to a greater extent than before (e.g. up to 100 users with the same web and social media parameters), it can also be customized with App and Audio-Visual elements should you require them.
The App license also includes the embedding of fonts in mobile or native apps for various platforms or operating systems.
Broadcasting, which was previously available as part of the discontinued Extended License, is now called Audio-Visual for better understanding and includes the distribution of such content. This means that the fonts can be used in streaming, cinema, TV and similar audio-visual productions and formats. Such a license module is also required for video contributions on social media channels that display the typefaces.
For all other applications (e.g. passing on to third parties, use in logos for larger organizations, embedding in hardware) an individual license agreement is required. We will be happy to prepare a quote for this.
We are super pleased with our new licensing model and hope that you will also find it simpler and fairer and look forward to receiving feedback. If not – all licenses issued under the previous model will, of course, remain valid.
