In recent years, Black Friday madness has reached exhausting proportions. It now dominates all industries, with the possible exception of funeral homes (die today for a 50% discount!). What’s more, no one seems to mind that a Friday in the third millennium lasts several weeks.
Black Friday has become a symbol of an insatiable and unsustainable hunger for more. More consumption, more sales, more waste of valuable resources.
But what can be done to counter this madness?
Might we suggest a little love, a little appreciation, a little respect?
Our idea is not to devalue our fonts, which have been lovingly created with great attention to detail, through discount wars. Instead, we will pass on 100% of the foundry’s share of the revenue, i.e., the total revenue from our web shop to the respective designers.
Without our fantastic designers – Aad, Alessio, Andreas, Anja, Christine, Christoph, Daniel, Erik, Felix, Franziska, Gabriel, Hendrik, Jan, Joe, Jörg, Katja, Loris, Noheul, Olli, Ralph, Ulrike and more to follow soon – there would be no fonts, and there would be no Fontwerk.
The idea is not new. For five years now, Bandcamp Friday has been offering musicians and artists a wonderful alternative for generating additional income alongside its fundamentally appreciative and artist-first model, in a marked contrast to the other more ‘profit-hungry’ streaming platforms.
In short, if you’ve toyed with the idea of licensing one of our fonts but needed one last reason to convince you, today is the day: all sales will go straight to our designers as we will pass on 100% of what you pay (net), i.e., the total revenue from fontwerk.com, to the respective designers. This offer is valid until midnight (CET) November 28, 2025.
By the way: The name ‘Too Black Friday’ is inspired by the boldest weight of our latest typeface release, Tausend (by Christoph Koeberlin and Gabriel Richter), which also goes beyond the usual level of boldness. Some of the artwork above – which was designed by the amazing Jana Heinz – is typeset in this style.
