We would love to win the Webby Award, so now we need your help and votes! |
Launched in 1996, the Webby Awards recognize Excellence on the Web and are awarded by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. They are a bit like “the Oscars of Internet”.
Each year, two winners in each of the eight categories are selected, one by the academy and one by a People’s Choice Award.
We are delighted that our new Fontwerk.com has been nominated in the Websites and Mobile Sites – Shopping & Retail category.
Fontwerk is just one of five other nominees in this category and this year there were over 13,000 projects entered, so we are doing a big happy dance to have been recognized!
We would love to win, so now we need your help and votes!
Voting is open now through Thursday, April 17th, at 11:59 pm PDT. It is super quick and easy to do and if you want to help us even more, please spread the word and share with a friend or two.

When it came to the design and branding for the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, there was really only one suitable font for that purpose. (© HSC) |
Pangea by Christoph Koeberlin has become synonymous with brands and organizations who have sustainability built in. So when it came to the design and branding for the Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC) there was really only one suitable font for that purpose.
The HSC is an international gathering to promote the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. It brings together leading representatives from across politics, business and science and its first event took place in October 2024 with over 1,600 participants from 100 countries.
Dörte Matzke and Julia Friese, from Matzke und Friese, were responsible for the design, along with the communication designer Ruth Heinlein. Their tasks ranged from logo development to corporate (website, printed materials) and event design. Pangea is used throughout.
Characterized by clear lines, exceptional legibility and charming details and suitable for both digital and printed applications, Pangea is the perfect fit for HSC.

“In the beginning there was the letter. It was the a. It was beautiful. It contained life. And the form of all characters. They became the words. And the words became the light of humankind.”
What reads like a prequel to the Gospel of John ironically describes the creation of our latest Superfamily, which we will share in the next newsletter – provided She up there doesn’t mind. So stay tuned!

Not only are we huge believers in the title and premise of this book, but we are pretty darn pleased to see one of our own typefaces featured in this glorious love letter to all things font specimen related. Published by our friends at Slanted Publishers, Support Independent Type II celebrates and showcases over 300 leading-edge and innovative type foundries. Thank you and a big shoutout to the team for featuring our very own Hamster by Joe Stitzlein.

This month, our founder Ivo Gabrowitsch will start as a Lecturer in Typography at the Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT). He will teach students studying on the Digital Media & Print program for the summer semester.
Alongside the basics, his main focus will be on legibility and readability and, of course, type (both its application and of course how to mix it). Branding with type will be another topic and a large part of his course will have a practical element to it.
He can’t wait to share his enthusiasm and passion for type and explain why fonts matter and how we can make them work harder and better with the students on the course.

iF Design was founded in 1953 and the first awards ceremony took place in 1954. It is one of the most highly coveted design awards and last year, our very own Neue DIN won an iF award.
Each year, iF Design compiles a new ranking based on the previous awards. It tracks outstanding creativity across the globe and is a well-regarded indicator for exceptional and continuous design excellence and competence.
This year, we are thrilled to be ranked at place number nine in Europe and place 17 in the world for the Typography/Signage category. Not bad for our relatively young organization.
