Behind every type design is an origin story, a tale of how that first flicker of inspiration was transformed into the final fonts. One could argue that in fact it takes a village to make a typeface (and sometimes also its marketing), so in this edition, we share a little bit about the making of the Hamster Video, and in other news, we have a special announcement for fans of Pangea.

These are just a couple of the many comments we received when we launched the video for our latest release, Hamster by Joe Stitzlein.
We can confirm that yes it is, in fact, very real and each of the 86 laser-cut wooden letters were hand-painted by a team of fourteen (!) creatives, from the Stockholm-based creative magicians, SNASK.
We have long admired them and their creative and completely unique approach to any project they undertake. So, when Hamster, our first color font, came into the family, in SNASK we found the perfect partner to bring to life this glorious and fabulously fun font!
Unlike any other font release, we gave SNASK free rein and they really let off creative steam. Since we received more comments and questions about the campaign then ever before, we’d like to reply to them by pointing to their beautiful behind the scenes story in all its paint dripping and colorful glory.

Pangea, our climate-conscious and ever expanding superfamily designed by Christoph Koeberlin, is getting more widths! Three in fact, SemiCondensed, Condensed and XCondensed, making it even more versatile and adaptable to any design brief.
Pangea is our most multilingual family and 25% of all designer royalties are donated to preserving the rainforest and to implementing large-scale reforestation projects.
If you are interested in getting your hands on some Beta fonts and giving Pangea Condensed a whirl before it is released later this year, please email us.

Many of the projects that we work on happen behind the scenes and often in secret. It takes months, often years, until a font is finished. Right now, we are working on eight (!) new families as well as some updates to three of our existing typefaces. Quite often, we are not allowed to talk about some projects and sometimes some projects simply fly under the radar, but are nevertheless important for the overall customer experience.
Such was the case with our project last weekend: while our website traffic was at its lowest, we completely revamped the backend to significantly reduce load times. We’re very happy that it succeeded, even though, in the process we stumbled across a handful of minor bugs. So, if you find something strange when visiting fontwerk.com, we would appreciate it if you could let us know please.
