“The spacing still sucks” — the words of his Professor Erik van Blokland were not causal, but they probably played their part in Daniel Grumer’s high standards for his type design work.

He heard them during his Master’s degree in TypeMedia at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, which complemented his graphic design studies at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Today, he teaches typography at the Jerusalem-based Academy.

Since 2017, Daniel Grumer has been part of the type foundry, Fontef in Tel-Aviv and publishes — sometimes together with Yanek Iontef — Latin and Hebrew typefaces for the label itself, but also for international foundries, including Abraham (Fontef), LL Brown Hebrew (Lineto), Graphik Hebrew, Lyon Hebrew (both Commercial Type), Zico (Typotheque) and Pangea Hebrew (Fontwerk).
