We’ve been teasing for a while now but it’s finally time to introduce you to Tausend—our newest addition to the Fontwerk family.
We’ve been teasing for a while now but it’s finally time to introduce you to Tausend—our newest addition to the family. Also in this month’s roundup, we share a beautiful use case that features Nice and Pangea and there’s also a fantastic Kickstarter Campaign for a very nifty type-related tool.

The name Tausend says a lot about its quality. It stands for size and diversity, for abundance and potential: a thousand ideas, a thousand possibilities, a thousand reasons. |
The tale of our newest superfamily began three years ago, when during a completely different project, Christoph Koeberlin sketched a very special and particular ‘a’. It was an ‘a’ that found itself in the tradition of German grotesque typefaces, but which had a smile and a wink in its curves. It was these promising details that Christoph began to explore and expand upon in collaboration with Gabriel Richter.
Fast forward to 2025 and we are delighted to present Tausend, a multi-talented, Jack-of-all-trades typeface that can stand the test of big and complex project briefs and hold its own under the demands and strains of today’s design environments. The Tausend Collection offers a comprehensive and infinitely versatile system that is at the forefront of variable font technology and includes over 1000 weights and glyphs to play with.
Tausend is not a revival but a homage. The small apertures, gentle top-heaviness, curved feet and ‘angular’ curves make Tausend proud, loud and confident. The full collection provides six subfamilies: Tausend, Tausend Plakat, Tausend Soft, Tausend Plakat Soft, Tausend Stencil and Tausend Shaded and offers broad language support as well as an array of stylistic features.

We love to see our fonts out in the wild, even more so when we spot not one but two working in partnership for great brands. Both Nice Headline and Pangea Text lay the foundation for the identity for the five-day music festival Unique Moments.
Unique Moments takes place in the historic courtyard of the Swiss National Museum Zurich annually and at the most recent festival, they had a star-studded line-up that included Jan Delay, Parcels, Max Herre & Joy Denalane and Róisín Murphy.
The combination of Nice and Pangea not only give the printed materials and website (both on desktop and mobile) a strong character and clear identity, but they also ensure optimum readability.

Typologie is the brainchild of Recto Verso, a Parisian graphic design studio founded by Pierre-Yann Lallaizon. Since 2020, the studio has been publishing its own collection of typographic ‘color charts’, Typologie. Over hundred foundries from four countries have collaborated on the project, creating a veritable rainbow of contemporary typographic inspiration.
Typologie Vert (Green) is the latest iteration of the project and is dedicated to German typography. It features a hand-picked and meticulously curated selection of 100 new typefaces from over 50 different studios. Recto Verso has custom-designed each specimen page and we are delighted that Fontwerk has been featured.
If you’re looking for some type-spiration, you can still back their Kickstarter campaign to bring this project to life and nab some exclusive goodies (incredibly, they reached their funding goal within the first 24 hours but you can still get your hands on some type-tastic rewards).

Like we always say, good type takes time and so does great web design. For those who’ve been with us a while, you may know that our own website project took a fine time. So it is such a joy to see all our blood, sweat and tears be recognized in the Indigo Awards. Fontwerk.com was awarded an amazing Gold in the Digital Design – UX and UI Website Design category.
We are also delighted to hear that our new website was recognized as one of the Finalists in the recent European Design Awards.
Lastly, in other award-related news, although we didn’t win the Webby Award in the end (see our April newsletter for more details), we are super grateful and proud to have received a nomination, which is an incredible achievement in itself. Once again, a huge thank you to our team, our designers, and to you our customers who have supported us on the journey.

We are always on the hunt for original designs—from the wild to the one-off, from the wacky to the serious and sensible. If you have a design that you think might fit our collection, we would love to hear from you. In return, we offer a close working partnership, one where we take care of all the time consuming and tricky things so that you can focus on what you do best.
Interested? Read more over on our website and find out more about the process.
